Alzheimer's Society Area Office
Supporting the six Alzheimer's Society branches in the Lakes
area. Develop services for people with dementia and their carers in
the lakes area.
Alzheimer's Society South Lakeland Branch
Offering support and information about Alzheimer's disease and
all types of dementia. Run day care, home support, carers support
groups and run educational forums.
British Trust for Conservation Volunteers And Millennium Volunteers (BTCV)
A nationwide charity that offers hands-on volunteer activities
in the environment. BTCV provides conservation volunteering
activities throughout the week, conservation holidays and training
opportunities Millennium Volunteers enable young people aged 16 -
24 years to volunteer for the benefit of their local community and
to gain in terms of their own personal development. Millennium
Volunteers provides accredited recognition after achieving 100 and
200 hours of volunteering.
Community Transport South Lakeland
Voluntary car scheme service throughout South Lakeland. Community minibuses available for hire to non-profit-making community groups in Kendal, Ambleside, Coniston, Kirkby Lonsdale, Ulverston, Broughton-in-Furness. Minibus Emergency Evacuation Training. Minibus Driver Training (MiDAS), PCV(DI) Driver Training. Disability Awareness Training. Accessible Minibus Awareness.
Cumbria Alcohol and Drug Advisory Service (CADAS)
Free and confidential one-to-one drug, alcohol and gambling counselling. Family support counselling and groups for family members and friends. Prevent and deter and peer education for young people.
Kendal Family Drop-in Centre
A drop-in facility for all families providing information and advice on family services, breast-feeding support, pre-school music lessons, training courses for sign-language (formal and informal), support groups for single parents and parents with disabilities (ADHD ASD) and evening/weekend family activities.
Lake District Summer Music
Running music events and festivals. Summer schools.
Musiclinks - Westmorland Music Council
Musiclinks aims to research and create an effective programme of innovative musical activities that are attractive to, and develop the skills of, local people. Musiclinks run a wide range of successful community music projects throughout the scattered communities and urban centres of Cumbria.
Post Natal Wellbeing
Support women and their families suffering from the effects of post natal illness. Post Natal Wellbeing aim to reduce the severity and duration of their illness by offering a range of free services tailored to their needs: Drop-in centres, outreach groups, respite care, play facilities, home visits, counselling, telephone helpline, provision of information and liaison with health professionals. We have bases in Kendal and Barrow and support families throughout Furness and the South Lakes.
South Cumbria Award Initiative
Youth work intervention and development training with "hard to reach, marginalised and vulnerable" people in Cumbria. A range of projects and programmes in particular using the Duke of Edinburgh's Award programme, outdoor, community and environmental activities. Promote international youth experiences and expeditions.
South Cumbria Dyslexia Association
Advice, information and Support for Dyslexics and their families. Courses for children, conferences for parents and teachers. Loan of resources assessments and tuition.
South Cumbria Mental Health Group
Helping users and carers to shape mental health services now and in the future.
South Cumbria Rape and Abuse Service
SCRAS is a local charity covering South Cumbria offering counselling to survivors of rape and childhood sexual abuse. We offer a specialist children's service and run workshops for the community in assertiveness and confidence building.
CVS South
Support local voluntary and community organisations helping them develop by providing relevant and accessible information and training. Ensure that the work and views of voluntary organisations are recognised by other sectors and the public and bring local people and organisations to work together in partnership.
South Lakes Society for the Blind
SLSB provides information, advice and support to people with sight problems. There is a large display of aids and equipment in our Sight Advice Centre and an outreach service for people who are unable to visit the centre. There is a regular newsletter and SLSB provide a range of activities - swimming, keep fit and bowling, as well as monthly support groups across the area.
Volunteer Centre South Lakeland
The Volunteer Centre South Lakeland matches volunteers to voluntary opportunities, supports organisations with their volunteers and generally offers any information, advice and support with any volunteering issue.
